Arnold has been creating Volvo ads for the North American market for the past several years; now the agency will also develop campaigns for China and the United Kingdom and will become the lead global creative agency for the Volvo brand.

Billings for the new business were not disclosed.

Volvo Cars’ China and UK markets were previously handled by SapientNitro, which retains the business in Australia.

Arnold won Volvo’s North American account in 2007, and an early Volvo campaign from Arnold featured the theme: “Life is Better Lived Together.”

Previously, Volvo seemed to have a reputation as a somewhat austere and sensible-shoe type vehicle. In 2007, an Arnold executive told the Globe that the agency was looking to present North Americans consumers with “a more emotional Volvo.”

Current ads from Arnold look to position Volvo as a luxury brand.
